An elderly man who was knocked down by a van outside a shop is fighting for his life.
A significant number of emergency services were scrambled to the scene near Bristol, in South Gloucestershire, at around 8.20am this morning (Thursday).
The serious incident saw a man, aged in his 80s, struck by a white Ford Transit van outside Budgens in Victoria Road, North Common.

Great Western Air Ambulance and a South Western Ambulance Service Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) were among the 999 crews deployed.
Medics worked on the injured man in the middle of the road, as police cordoned off the street to pedestrians and motorists.
After an hour of treatment, he was stabilised and taken into an ambulance – before being blue-lighted to Southmead Hospital in Bristol with a police convoy.

Avon and Somerset Police confirmed that the man is in a life-threatening condition. Forensic collision investigation work is ongoing at the scene.
