A ‘person in distress on a bridge’ has closed a major road near Calne.
Emergency services were called to the mental health-related incident on Millennium Bridge, over the busy A4, at around 1.30pm afternoon (Wednesday).
The road – at Black Dog Hill – is shut in both directions, causing significant traffic delays.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “The A4 between Chippenham and Calne is currently closed in both directions following an ongoing incident on an overbridge.
“Drivers should avoid the area and seek an alternative route whilst the incident is dealt with. Thank you for your patience.”
