A sheep’s reportedly been killed in a dog attack in Royal Wootton Bassett.
Wiltshire Police is understood to have been informed of the incident, which is thought to have occurred at some point this morning on farmland in the Bincknoll Lane area of the town.
The farmer, Oliver Nutland, says his sheep would have been in “a great deal a pain” in the lead up to her death, with the rest of the flock – some of which are pregnant – will be “traumatised” following the fatal attack.
“This picture is the consequence of someone letting their dogs run off the lead around sheep on private land. This sheep would have been terrified”, he commented.
Mr Nutland warned local residents that he has the legal right to shoot dogs which worry his livestock whilst on his private land – which runs alongside the canal.
“Farmers have the right to shoot dogs that are a risk to livestock”, he said. “Don’t let this be your dog. Please please stick to the footpaths…and keep your dogs on leads.”
Anyone with information relating to this incident should contact Wiltshire Police by calling 101. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
